My children, what I would like to tell you
Submitted by: Simon Renaud, RVP Québec
My daughter, my boy, the center of wonder in my disrepair universe. I wanted to take a moment today to address you. To you who are essentially my primary reason to breathe, to cry, to laugh. The pride that comes over me when I look at you reminds me how, in these sometimes-difficult times, having children is the drop of pure water in the middle of the ocean. The one that erases the pain, the disappointments, the misfortunes, especially those that never come alone.
Every misstep you make reassures me. It indicates to me that you are moving forward in life simply by trying. Each of the accomplishments that define your journey are moments of joy that I cherish deep in my heart. I feel privileged when I see all those little smiles. These smiles that say: “You see, I knew it, I’m capable, watch me go” Yes, my children, I watch you, I even secretly admire you, every day that passes, and I never get tired of it.
Know that I often doubt the foundations of my actions. I am so afraid of making a mistake, of giving you the wrong shoulder to comfort you. Yet, from the height of your so majestic youth, you gently make me feel that my efforts are not in vain. Of course, we sometimes get confused. But isn’t sharing the sadness that sometimes dwells within us an even greater reason to believe that we love each other?
When I see these northern lights in the sky, it is your light that I see. When I see the white flag being raised, it’s the peace you bring me that I feel. When I see those happy couples walking hand in hand down the street, it reminds me of your love. If you knew how grateful I am to you. You, my children, the essence of my best moments.
Today, on this World Children’s Day, I simply wanted to take the time to thank you. You are what I hold most precious, but above all, I know that with you, the world of tomorrow will only be more beautiful.
I love you. Thanks to you, I am filled with emotions when I hear that word resonate within me: DAD.
